Description

Bearing VarietyVista die tracking codes UVC-292 and DMR-043, this 1963 Franklin Half Dollar DDR-016 presents a multi-element reverse doubling pattern affecting several inscription groups with varying degrees of displacement. Light spread is visible on the E PLUR of PLURIBUS and the UN of UNUM, with additional doubling on the U and ED of UNITED and the AR of DOLLAR. Rotational doubling appears on the ES of STATES, on OF and AMERICA, and on the tail feathers — while triple spread on the middle bar of the F in HALF represents the strongest manifestation, where three distinct hub impressions created overlapping images on this specific letter element. Three documented die stages track the progression of this die pair through production: Stage A shows both the reverse and obverse in early die state (EDS), Stage B reaches mid-die-state (MDS, unconfirmed), and Stage C enters late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). The Franklin Half Dollar was designed by John R. Sinnock, featuring Benjamin Franklin's portrait on the obverse and the Liberty Bell on the reverse, with a small eagle included to satisfy the legal requirement for eagle imagery on half dollars.
