Description

Notable for carrying die markers on both sides of the coin, the 1961 Proof Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDR-014 presents a close spread towards the center on CENT, the designer's initials FG, and AMERICA. The Class II centripetal displacement touches three separate design areas, providing multiple zones where collectors can search for the secondary hub impression under magnification. What distinguishes WDDR-014 from many of its counterparts in the seventeen-member 1961 Proof DDR family is its dual-surface die marker documentation. On the obverse, a die scratch running north to south on Lincoln's nose creates a distinctive facial diagnostic — an unusual location that makes the marker both easy to find and difficult to confuse with normal circulation wear. On the reverse, a die scratch running NNW to SSE on the left Memorial base provides a complementary confirmation point. The presence of identifiable markers on both the obverse and the reverse gives collectors two independent avenues of authentication beyond the doubling pattern itself, making WDDR-014 one of the more securely attributable varieties in the 1961 Proof DDR sequence. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1961 1¢ Pr WDDR-014 with no known cross-references, this variety should be examined systematically: first locating the nose scratch on the obverse, then confirming the left-base scratch on the reverse, before finally assessing the centripetal spread on CENT, FG, and AMERICA.
