Description

The ninth pre-cud cataloged for the 1955 San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent, PC-1c-1955S-09R documents a reverse die crack as indicated by the R suffix. The 1955-S cent holds particular numismatic interest because the San Francisco Mint ceased cent production after this year, making it the terminal S-mint issue in the Wheat Cent series — cent coinage would not return to San Francisco until 1968 proof production. With a mintage of 44,610,000 pieces, the 1955-S nonetheless generated at least nine distinct pre-cud varieties across its reverse working dies.
