Description
A notable Class I rotated hub doubling variety, the 1945 Mercury Dime DDR-001 displays medium spread on ONE DIME, the lower left leaves and branches, and both flanking stars, with lighter spread appearing mostly as notches on the letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-R-I-CW and cataloged with die markers UVC-212 and DMR-002, this variety shows the characteristic clockwise rotational spread pattern of a Class I doubled die. The final year of Adolph Weinman's beloved Winged Liberty Head design, 1945 Mercury Dimes were struck in large quantities as wartime production continued at full capacity. The medium-strength doubling on reverse design elements makes DDR-001 one of the more detectable doubled die reverse varieties in the Mercury Dime series, with the spread on ONE DIME providing a particularly convenient diagnostic feature for quick identification under low magnification.
