1945-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002
Error
Description
Paired with a notable reverse die marriage, this 1945-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar doubled die obverse displays a Class II spread towards the center that manifests as tripling on the lower gown, the lower sun ray, and the right shoe. The reverse of this variety is also a repunched mintmark listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1945-D 50¢ WRPM-001, a D/D tilted (rotated) — making this a die marriage carrying two collectible attributions on a single coin. Obverse die markers include a die scratch running east from the T through the Y of LIBERTY. On the reverse, E/W and ENE/WSW die scratches appear on the rock above the DOL of DOLLAR. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID: 1945-D 50¢ WDDO-002. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, was in its final years of production in 1945 before being replaced by the Franklin Half in 1948, and Denver Mint specimens with documented die marriages linking a DDO and RPM on the same coin are particularly appealing to advanced variety collectors.
