1945-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

The primary cataloged doubled die obverse for the 1945-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar, WDDO-001 shows Class II spread toward center on the lower left of Liberty's gown, on the sun rays below the figure, and very lightly on the acorns, leaves, and stars behind the head, with very light notching on the IN and WE of IN GOD WE TRUST. Most prominently, tripling is present on the sun ray below the gown — elevating this variety above standard doubled die entries. Adolph A. Weinman's iconic design, struck in 90% silver, depicts Liberty striding toward the rising sun on the obverse. Obverse die markers include many die scratches in various directions in the field below the arm holding branches, and a die scratch south from the bottom of the right drapery. The reverse carries a die scratch east-west above the dot between the D of UNITED and the first S of STATES. Cross-reference: Wexler Variety ID 1945-D 50¢ WDDO-001.
