1945-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

A combo variety carrying attributions on both sides, the 1945 Denver Mint Mercury Dime WDDR-002 pairs its doubled die reverse with a repunched mint mark listed as WRPM-013 (D/D Tilted, Rotated) in the Wexler RPM files. Struck in the 90% silver composition of pre-1965 dimes, this variety shows a close spread towards the center on the lower left leaves and branches of the reverse fasces design. Obverse die markers include a short vertical die gouge above the bonnet, well to the left of the R in LIBERTY. On the reverse, a short die gouge runs from the lower right side of the olive branch to the underside of the fasces. The D/D Tilted repunched mint mark, where a secondary D impression is visible at a rotated angle beneath the primary D, provides an independent obverse diagnostic alongside the reverse leaf doubling.
