Description
The 1944 (D) Philippine Twenty Centavos was struck at the Denver Mint and carries a D mint mark on the reverse. From 1937 the twenty centavos kept Figueroa's obverse and the 4-gram, 75 percent silver standard of 1907. The reverse carries the arms of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, designed by Ambrosio Morales; the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the date and the mint letter run around them. The recorded mintage is 28,596,000. Denver struck the twenty centavos of 1944 and 1945 for the liberation of the islands, the first Philippine coins with a D mint mark. Catalogue numbers: KM-182.
