1943-S Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
Error
Description
This variety is at least a tripled die. A strong Class V CCW spread from a pivot at approximately 9:00 shows on the date, Lincoln’s bowtie, his lips, his nose, his eye, and the upper front curl of hair. Doubling also shows on IGWT while close tripling shows on the letters of LIBERTY. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Six long die scratches run south to north above the 94 in the date. Two parallel die scratches run SSE from the bottom of the R in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage B: A die scratch runs from north to south to the right of the Y in LIBERTY. A die scratch runs north from the top of the 4 in the date. Reverse Stage A: None noted. Reverse Stage B: A die gouge (dot) can be found inside the D of UNITED. Several die scratches run SSE from the bottom of the N in CENT through the ST of STATES and the ER of AMERICA.
