1936 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Primary doubled die reverse for the 1936 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, WDDR-001 is particularly notable because its obverse die is also a documented doubled die — listed in the Wexler files as 1936 50¢ WDDO-004, making this a dual-variety coin exhibiting hub doubling on both sides. Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty obverse and heraldic eagle reverse, widely celebrated as among the most beautiful American coin designs, provide rich detail work where hub displacement becomes visible. Obverse die markers include a die gouge (dot) in the field south of the left leg of the R in TRUST and two die gouges (dots) north of the back of the right shoe. The reverse carries a half U-shaped die scratch on the eagle's left leg.
