Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-044 and DMR-004, this 1936 Denver Mint Walking Liberty Half Dollar DDO-003 presents strong spread on the date with a particularly striking feature: four serifs visible on the numeral 6, where the doubling is pronounced enough to produce doubled serif marks creating four distinct points instead of the normal two. Additional spread appears on the lower folds of Liberty's gown and slightly on IN GOD WE TRUST. Documented across Stages A through C, the die progresses through measurable deterioration states. Adolph A. Weinman designed the Walking Liberty Half Dollar — the same artist responsible for the Mercury Dime — creating one of the most acclaimed compositions in American coinage, depicting Liberty striding toward the sunrise. The quadruple-serif effect on the 6 represents strong enough hub displacement to fully separate the secondary impression from the primary on these small terminal features, making it one of the more visually dramatic doubled date markers in the Walking Liberty series. This Denver Mint variety belongs to a premium collector series.
