About This Coin
The 1934 Philippine Centavo is a United States cent from the Philippines Centavos 1903-1945 series — a late issue, 29th of 36 years in the series. In 1934, coins were struck at the M Mint. The obverse features a male figure seated beside a hammer and anvil and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Struck during the Great Depression, when mintages dropped sharply and the United States abandoned the gold standard in 1933. Struck in bronze. A notable auction result reached $288 in MS66BN grade at Stack's Bowers. Designed by Melecio Figueroa.
