Description

When Ford did come to Chicago's Century of Progress, in its second season of 1934, this bronze medal, HK-466, came with it. A gear wheel covers nearly the whole obverse, crossed by a horizontal V-8 emblem pointing left, with "Ford Exposition" above, 1934 under the emblem and the small initials W D T at the bottom edge, which Hibler and Kappen give to the industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague. The reverse is a large upright V-8, the word Ford at upper left and "A Century of Progress Chicago" curving around the lower half. Copper, brass and aluminum pieces on thick planchets began appearing on eBay in 2012 and 2013; their designs differ from the originals in small details easy to spot. Bronze, 34 mm.
