About This Coin
The 1933 Medal Die Trial is a United States medal from the Die Trials, Hub Trials, and Splashers 1792-1982 series — a late issue, 37th of 39 years in the series. The obverse features test impressions from coin dies, ranging from fully detailed to partial impressions and the reverse displays test impressions that may be blank, partial, or paired with unrelated dies (mules). Struck during the Great Depression, when mintages dropped sharply and the United States abandoned the gold standard in 1933. Designed by Various Mint engravers.
