1798 Die Trial
BaseAbout This Coin
The 1798 Die Trial is a United States coin from the Die Trials, Hub Trials, and Splashers 1792-1982 series — an early issue, 4th of 39 years in the series. This represents the lowest annual mintage in the entire series, below the series median of 2. The obverse features test impressions from coin dies, ranging from fully detailed to partial impressions and the reverse displays test impressions that may be blank, partial, or paired with unrelated dies (mules). Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Designed by Various Mint engravers.
