About This Coin

The 1792 Die Trial is a United States coin from the Die Trials, Hub Trials, and Splashers 1792-1982 series — the second year of the series. In 1792, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features test impressions from coin dies, ranging from fully detailed to partial impressions and the reverse displays test impressions that may be blank, partial, or paired with unrelated dies (mules). Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Designed by Various Mint engravers.
