Description

The Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company built a leisure area at Chicago's Century of Progress Exposition, with a marine park and an amphitheater whose featured act was the puppeteer Tony Sarg, and HK-464 is the gilt souvenir of that A&P Carnival. Its obverse frames "A & P Carnival," "Chicago Worlds Fair" and the date 1933 inside a wreath of fruits and vegetables, beneath a ribbon lettered "A Century of Progress." The reverse is the pig: a big one standing to the left, holding a bowl of produce marked A & P, above a ribbon with the cheer "Hi-Ho" and small initials T.S at the lower edge. A second carnival piece with a cow on the back is HK-464a. The medal is gilt and measures 35 mm.
