Description
The 1931 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent is a cent produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. With a mintage of 4.5 million, this is a scarce issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 18% of production. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. The 1931-S with a mintage of only 866,000 is a key date, struck during the depths of the Great Depression. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $9 to $87 depending on grade and condition.
