1928-S VAM-11A

Description

John Bradley discovered this variety in January 2007, adding it to the catalog as 1928-S Peace Dollar VAM-11A, classified II9 - B2a with an I-2 impact rating and R-4 rarity. The 1928-S holds distinction as the key date of the Peace Dollar series, with the lowest mintage of any regular-issue Peace Dollar, making any cataloged VAM from this date particularly desirable. VAM-11A features doubled motto letters D W TR on the obverse, where portions of the IN GOD WE TRUST inscription show clear hub doubling. The reverse exhibits a clashed die with double clash spikes rising from the eagle's right shoulder, where the left spike appears faint from die polishing. These clash spikes formed when the obverse and reverse dies struck each other without a planchet between them, and a subsequent clash at a slightly different angle created the doubled spike pattern.
