Description
=1921-S VAM-1AH Die File Lines Reverse, Die Break Second S in STATES= Discovered by Michael Ash, June 2006. .....................................................UNDER REVIEW FOR POSSIBLE RE-INSTATEMENT................................................................. ................................Eliminated April 2008: The 21-S VAM-1AH is now the 1921-S VAM-1M3. which is now 15F..................................... 1AH IV 1 · D2a (Die File Lines Reverse, Die Break Second S in STATES) (189) I-2 R-5 Obverse IV 1– Die file lines near left side of neck to remove diagonal die clash line that is higher than VAM 18A. Reverse D2a– Shallow bean shaped die break at lower inside of bottom loop of second S in STATES similar to VAM 1M. Heavy die file lines in fields to remove die clash marks. Some missing feathers in middle of eagle’s left wing. Comments: 1- March 2008: 4 distinct die stages of this variety will be submitted to Leroy for possible assignment of new VAM numbers for the different stages. The stages all have the bean bottom S but go through 2 obverse dies and various states of polishing. 2- vampicker - I suspect this may have been eliminated in error, saw an example that lacked the diagnostic marker of the shared reverse in the VAM 15 progression. Piece also had traces of In clash visible. Evil mimic of the former VAM 1M as originally attributed? 3- This is a "Bean Bottom S" variety. Click on the Bean Bottom S VAMworld page for links to the other bean bottom VAMs. LVA Plate Photos: 400px400px 400px Here are some additional photos of an example confirmed by Leroy: image:1921-S_VAM-1AH_polishing1.jpg image:1921-S_VAM-1AH_polishing2.jpg image:1921-S_VAM-1AH_polishing3.jpg image:1921-S_VAM-1AH_polishing4.jpg http://www.collectors-society.com/registry/ngc/CensusDetail.aspx?IDCoins=xxxxx NGC Population for 18xx-x VAM-xx MS
