Description
=1921-D VAM-1AK2 Die Gouge E #3, Scribbling Die Scratches #59, Dot Above 1= Discovery 2009 1AK2 IV 1 D2a (Die Gouge E #3, Scribbling Die Scratches #59, Dot Above 1) (189) Obverse IV 1- Circular raised dot above right 1 in date. Reverse D2a - Small 1D mint mark centered and slightly tilted to left DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # In May 2005, Larry Galbraith noticed that there is a dot above the 1 in the date. # In July 2009 Leroy put forth that the dot above the second 1 in the date is actually an LDS feature & created the VAM-1AK2 (assuming that the 1AK1 does not have this dot). It is unclear if an "undotted" state has been confirmed. See 1921-D VAM-1AK1 for details. # There is a thick up-left gouge protruding from the left side of the E in ONE. # A specimen with the dot and without the gouge was confirmed in May 2024, resulting in revision of VAMs 1AK1 and 1AK2. A coin with a gouge and no dot either doesn't exist or is made with a different obverse die.
