Some later die state specimens also have a small die scratch thru od in God. (Formerly VAM 1AB) Fine die scratches in various directions on overpolished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg and between eagle’s left wing and body. ''Die marker -'' Horizontal die scratch across upper tail feathers. DPIS – Dates were part of the master die in 1921, so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The pierced tail feather variety has proven to be elusive. Only one coin was known with this die gouge at the time of first publication of Fun With 1921. More have emerged, but this variety has proven to be one of the more difficult coins to find. The most interesting discovery was made when John Kohut noticed the Top 100 VAM-1A2 (former VAM-1A) TRU_T filled die had the exact same die gouge! Everybody’s attention was drawn to the eye-popping missing letter and the die gouge went unnoticed from 1968 until late 2004! # Although 1A1 is listed first in the 1A1-1A2 sequence, it was actually produced after 1A2. The evidence is a small vertical crack on 1A1 coins that runs from from the top of the right wreath to the eagle's wing. There is no trace of that crack on 1A2 coins.
