Description
Part of the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series, the 1918 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent is a cent from the Denver Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 47.8 million examples, making this ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 13% of production. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. Minted during and after World War I, as America emerged as a global power and experienced the prosperity of the Roaring Twenties. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $186 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc, weighing 3.11 grams, 19 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
