Description
California calls itself "the Exposition State" on HK-414, where a standing woman faces right holding the state flag in her left hand and a wreath in her right, a bear beneath the flag, and the exposition grounds, the bay, hills and a rayed sun spread behind them. "San Francisco 1915" runs along the bottom. The reverse shows a ship passing through the canal, the date split as 19 and 15, inside the legend "Panama Canal Completion Exposition" with "San Francisco" below. It belongs to the Exposition State dollars, a small family that combines these two sides with a Tower of Jewels design in different pairings (HK-415, HK-415a, HK-416). HK-414 is gilt brass with a reeded edge and beaded borders, 35 mm.
