1915 HK-412, Bronze, Pan-Pac Expo South Carolina Expo Fund Dollar
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This commemorative so-called dollar (HK-412) from 1915 celebrates Pan-Pac Expo South Carolina Expo Fund. The 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal and demonstrated the city's remarkable recovery from the devastating 1906 earthquake and fire. Bronze examples of so-called dollars offer collectors an excellent balance of affordability, condition, and aesthetic appeal. The alloy's hardness produces sharp strikes with fine detail that survives handling better than softer metals. Official exposition medals were struck by the U.S. Mint, and the landmark Panama-Pacific commemorative coin set (including the famous $50 gold pieces) made this the most numismatically significant American exposition. Collectors of so-called dollars pursue pieces by exposition, metal type, engraver, geographic region, or historical theme, with complete sets of certain exposition groups being particularly prized accomplishments.
Rarity Notes
So-called dollars from the early 20th century were produced in limited quantities for distribution at events or through numismatic channels. Bronze examples of HK-412 are common to moderately scarce, with surviving pieces ranging from well-worn pocket pieces to carefully preserved specimens.
