Description

The 1909 (S) Philippine Ten Centavos is a ten centavos coin minted at the San Francisco Mint, within the Philippines Ten Centavos 1903-1945 series. When the value of silver rose, the act of June 23, 1906 lowered the weight and fineness of the Philippine silver coins: from 1907 the ten centavos weighs 30.864 grains (2 grams) of .750 silver and is smaller across. Philadelphia struck the 1907 coins and the 1908 proofs, San Francisco the coins of 1907-1919 with an S, and the Manila Mint those of 1920 and 1921 without a mint mark and of 1929 and 1935 with an M. The Director of the Mint's report for the fiscal year 1910 lists 312,199 ten-centavo pieces struck at San Francisco, the only ten centavos it struck between July 1909 and June 1911. Catalogue numbers: KM-169. PCGS number 90250.
