Description

The 1907 Proof Philippine Peso is a proof struck at the Philadelphia Mint for the proof sets sold to collectors from 1903 to 1908, and like all Philippine proofs it carries no mint mark. From 1907 the peso was cut to 20 grams of 80 percent silver and 35 millimeters, under the act of June 23, 1906, which set a floor of 70 percent silver for the peso; the designs did not change. San Francisco struck the reduced peso until 1912, the last regular pesos of the American period. The obverse is Melecio Figueroa's young woman in a flowing gown striking an anvil with a hammer, the smoking cone of Mount Mayon behind her, with the value above and FILIPINAS below. The reverse shows the American eagle over a striped shield, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date. Greysheet records two 1907 proof pesos, each unique: one on the old 90 percent standard and this one, PCGS 374990, on the new 80 percent standard. No proof mintage is recorded.
