Description
=1902-O VAM-21 Tripled Profile, 2 Olive Reverse= Discovered by Martin Field, February 1979. Revised 2009, 2011. 21 (revised) III2 12 - C4/C3h (Tripled Profile, 2 Olive Reverse) (181) Obverse III2 12- Tripled front hairline, tip of nose, chin and cap back of Liberty's head plus E PLUR lower portions towards rim. Doubled nose, lips, neck, cap top of Liberty head plus left stars and S-UNUM towards rim. Short horizontal die gouges at top left of R and above I near denticles in PLURIBUS. Date set low and left side of normal lateral position. Reverse C4/C3h- Extra olive to right of olive connected to branch. Doubling at base of top and left leaf clusters, tops of bottom leaf in top clusters and top leaf in bottom cluster, top of upper 3 arrow feathers, right side of middle talon on eagle's right leg, top of upper arrow head and shaft, and back of lower arrow head. III O mint mark centered and upright. ''Die Marker'' - Diagonal polishing line from right ribbon down to left L in DOLLAR. Some specimens show light rust pitting at motto and below eagle's right wing. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Added October 2011: The reverse shows signs of pitting below eagle's right wing, under the Motto letters, in front of eagle's neck, and OF of the Legend. This was the cause of the listing for the V80. The V80 was delisted since the pitting shows on both the LDS V21 & V21A. Alan # 1902-O VAM-21 & 1902-O VAM-21A do appear to have been produced from the same pair of dies - with a considerable "reworking" tweenst the two.
