Description

=1900-O VAM-14A Near Date, Doubled 00 Top & Ear, High O, Clashed Obverse n= Discovered December 2003 by O.C. Smith Jr. ===(Eliminated, same as VAM-35A)=== 14A III28 · C3l (Near Date, Doubled 00 Top & Ear, High O, Clashed Obverse n) (181) Obverse III28– Clashed die with partial incuse n of In from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck. Additional Obverse Description 00 in date slightly doubled. First 0 very slightly doubled at bottom outside. Last 0 slightly doubled at top outside. Ear slightly doubled at right inside. Date set further left than normal. Comments: 1- Unfortunately, early die states of the break are not as bold and can be confused with the VAM-29A. Complicating this issue is the fact that the VAM-29A brings a significant premium when sold where the VAM-14A usually does not. VAM-29A is seldom, if ever, found in mint state and the VAM-14A can be found in high grades. The VAM-14A is not actually a die break but rather a die crack. No metal was significantly displaced as happened in the late stages of the VAM-29A. This page should help attribute the differences in the early stages of the VAM-29A from the VAM-14A. This VAM has a light die crack running through the denticles almost horizontally across the bottom of the date. 2- VAM-14A same as VAM-35A, VAM-35A was eliminated. VAM-14A appears to be a duplication or repeated misattribution of VAM-41A. The mintmark is set high with a tilt to the right on this marriage unlike the reverse pictured in the VAM book. 3- VAM-14A same as VAM-35A and VAM-41A. VAM-14A and VAM-41A Eliminated. VAM-35A was reinstated December 2013.
