1896-P VAM-6B Doubled 6 Profile, Slanted Date, Doubled Reverse Lettering Discovered by Ron Gapa, 2019. Revised July 2023. III2 6 • C3a (Doubled 6, Profile, Slanted Date, Doubled Reverse Lettering) (189) Obverse III2 6 Reverse C3a - Die cracks around most of periphery with displaced field breaks at NIT of UNITED, ATES of STATES and LA of DOLLAR. Die chip on crack connecting IT. Occurs before clashed n of VAM-6A. DPIS - B23/C4 Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: LVA Letter Revised to add die chip between IT. Displaced field breaks are simply die wear across a die crack, so this chip must be present to be called VAM 6B. A slightly earlier die stage has been observed without the crack.
