Description
1896-P VAM-19 "8" in Denticles Discovered by Chris Pilliod, October 1990. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. '''19 III219 · C3a (8 in Denticles) (190) ''' '''Obverse''' III219– Top of 8 appears in two denticle spaces just below 8 as two raised and curved bars. Date slightly slanted with 1 closest to rim. '''DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments: # One of several Morgan dollar misplaced dates. Here the '8' was repunched and appears in the denticles. The other digits are not visible. The date has a mild slant, rising to the right. Not terribly difficult to find, but gets scarce in MS64 and above. NGC labels a late die state version of VAM-19, but this is not officially recognized. On later die state, the smaller shot bar in the next right denticle space doesn't show anymore from die wear, and on the reverse the doubling of the branch to the left also has been lost. # Also the wreath bow still shows doubling on the inside.
