Description
Discovered in 2011, this Carson City Mint Morgan Dollar is designated VAM-13 under Classification III2 8, C3a, documenting a Doubled 189. On the obverse, the 1 is doubled below the top and lower crossbars, and the 8 and 9 are doubled at the lower left outside of the lower loop. The date sits at the left side of the normal lateral position, with short horizontal polishing lines at the neck. On the reverse, the CC mint mark appears in normal position and spacing with the right C very slightly low, and light pitting is visible on the eagle. Carson City Morgan Dollars rank among the most collectible issues in American numismatics, struck at the Nevada mint that operated from 1870 to 1893 using silver from the Comstock Lode. The 1892-CC is a late-date Carson City issue with a modest mintage, and VAM-13's doubled date diagnostics on the 189 add variety interest to an already desirable mint mark. Struck in 90% silver, Carson City Morgans command consistent premiums across all grades.
