1889-O VAM-1A E on Reverse Discovered by Francis Klaes, June 1963. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. Weak horizontal line below I in PLURIBUS from top of D in DOLLAR from reverse. Weak curved line next to cap below first U in UNUM from top of R in DOLLAR from reverse. '''Reverse C3a–''' Strongly clashed die with full raised E below eagle’s tail feathers on left side and partial raised B left of E and tip of R to right of E from obverse LIBERTY. Late die states show double clashed E. Also shows raised designer’s initial M from obverse between d and W of God We. Centered circular medium III O mint mark. '''Comments:''' '''1-''' VAM-1A comes in two die states, the first clash leaves a partial E and the second, traditional clash comes with a full E and a partial B on the reverse. Thus, Leroy Van Allen has divided VAM-1A into die stages - 1889-O VAM-1A1 and 1889-O VAM-1A2. Both stages are extremely rare and valuable, but probably the second die stage should command a greater premium in the market. The one clash stage (VAM 1A1) shows a relatively strong E...stronger than the Hot 50 1889-O VAM-20A. The two clash stage (VAM 1A2) shows a double clashed strong E and many other letters, the second clash was much harder than the first and there's design tranfer all over the place. LVA Plate Photos
