Description
=1885-S VAM-2A Doubled 5, Far Date, Die Flake in Wreath= Discovered by Jerry Hanson, April 2000. Eliminated December 2022 2A III2 2 · C3a (Doubled 5, Far Date, Die Flake in Wreath) (176) Obverse III2 2 - 5 in date doubled at top appearing as two short dashes on the left and right side Reverse C3a – Large die flake in left wreath as in VAM-1A. Comments: # Exact same reverse die as VAM-1, 1A & 2A. # As we know that the reverse die was chipped while producing the VAM-1 (thereby creating the VAM-1A) we can conclude that there is not an unchipped version of the VAM-2A (VAM-2). 1885-S VAM-2 does not exist. # While not in the description - VAM-2A is a far date. # This obverse has been seen with a reverse without a die chip, but with a slightly higher mint mark. This combination would receive a new VAM number if confirmed upon examination.
