1885-S VAM-9 885 in Denticles, S/S Discovered by Herb Zepke, February, 1999. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. 9 III2 7 · C3b (885 in Denticles, S/S) (185) Obverse III2 7– Tops of 885 showing in denticles as raised curved bars in single denticle space below first 8 and in single denticle space below second 8, and as raised straight top bar in single denticle space below 5. Reverse C3b- S mint mark strongly doubled with original showing as vertical spike to left, a thin diagonal line to left of upper loop, a curved line on right inside of lower loop, and a thin line on right inside of upper loop. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This obverse shared with [[1885-S VAM-8 and [[1885-O VAM-9. # This reverse shared with [[1885-S VAM-6 and VAM-9. # This VAM is the same reverse as the Top 100 [[1885-S VAM-6 with a repunched S over S mint mark. The 1885-S/S is under appreciated for its rarity, but the [[1885-O VAM-9 with a repunched date in the denticles is almost unknown. It is a truly rare coin and seldom encountered.
