Description
This is the 1883 Hawaiian dollar, AKAHI DALA, struck in copper as a proof pattern. In 1883 the Philadelphia Mint struck proof patterns in copper of the eighth dollar, quarter, half dollar and dollar of Barber's Hawaiian designs, numbered 2CPC-1 to 2CPC-4 by Medcalf and Russell; PCGS reports that eighteen sets were made. They are trial pieces, not coins issued by the Kingdom. PCGS lists it as Medcalf-2CPC-4 and NGC as M-CPC4 in copper; a Goldberg catalogue gives it as KM-7a. Catalogue numbers: Medcalf-Russell 2CPC-4, KM-7a. PCGS number 509657.
