Description

=1878-P VAM-80A Doubled LIBERTY, Wheat Leaves, Disconnected Leaves, Die Breaks T= Discovered by C. Logan McKechnie October 2005. 80A II/I 6 · B2b (Doubled LIBERTY, Wheat Leaves, Disconnected Leaves, Die Breaks T) (180) Reverse B2b– Die cracks at top of all legend letters with die breaks at top left and right of T and left of N in UNITED. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Do not mistake a crack and tiny chips, which are common and present on most VAM 80 coins to some degree, with this die break. ''A note from Leroy Van Allen'' regarding how large the break at the T needs to be in order for the coin to be called VAM 80A: "From e-mail photo of cracks at T in UNITED, the tiny die chip at top rt would be too small to call 80A. Has to be larger to be readily visible to naked eye. I would say that listable break would have to be at least about half size of top rt large serif of T. Smaller die chips are very common on Morgan dies and listing of them would add many new listings that would dilute importance of listings." # LDS of VAM-80.
