Description
1878-P VAM-30A Discovery Jan.15,2012 Russ James 30A II/I 7 B/Aa (Extra Talons, Die Break Dot) (Displaced Obverse Field) (180) Obverse II/1 7 - Radial die crack from denticles thru dot between E_P with displaced field break there on later die states. Also has radial die crack thru M in UNUM that has slight displaced field break on late die states. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: 1878-P VAM-81, 1878-P VAM-33A, 1878-P VAM-33, 1878-P VAM-30, 30A Reverse: Comments: As stated, the late stage of the VAM 30 marriage with the cracks found on all examples more advanced. Note that the crack thru the left dot has curved all the way past the E to the field next to the 7th left star. Also note that the crack thru the M of UNUM reaches the back of the portrait with some weak field displacement along its length.
