Description
The 1875 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-1442 is a proof half eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1875 half eagle dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1875 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Two aluminum examples are confirmed; USPatterns.com notes that the regular-dies pieces of this year are often found gilt. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1586 and Adams-Woodin 1410. Cataloged as PCGS #61750.
