Description
The 1875 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-1438 is a proof half eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It carries William Barber's Sailor Head obverse, used the same year on twenty-cent and eagle patterns, and a matching eagle was made (J-1443 to J-1445a). Two are known in gold. It is struck in gold with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1581, Adams-Woodin 1406 and Taxay EP995. Cataloged as PCGS #537358.
