Description
The 1875 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-1440 is a proof half eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It carries William Barber's Sailor Head obverse, used the same year on twenty-cent and eagle patterns, and a matching eagle was made (J-1443 to J-1445a). The aluminum example, ex Boyd, is believed unique. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1583, Adams-Woodin 1408 and Taxay EP997. Cataloged as PCGS #61747.
