Description
The 1873 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-1337 is a proof half eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. Its obverse is William Barber's Liberty head facing right with LIBERTY on the coronet, related to his trade dollar J-1287, and its reverse the eagle and shield die of the 1872 Amazonian half eagle J-1240. It first appeared in E. B. Haseltine's March 1876 sale, which gave two struck in gold. It is struck in gold with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1481, Adams-Woodin 1286 and Taxay EP954. Cataloged as PCGS #61625.
