Description
The copper companion to J-1266 and one of the very last half dime patterns of any kind, J-1267 closes the denomination's nearly eight-decade pattern history with a base-metal farewell. The half dime, America's smallest silver coin, would be replaced in commerce by the copper-nickel five-cent nickel that had been gradually supplanting it since 1866. This copper pattern serves as a requiem for one of the original denominations specified in the Coinage Act of 1792.
