Description

Completing the 1872 three-cent series in copper-nickel, J-1188 tests the established composition of the production three-cent nickel with what may be a modified die design. Copper-nickel three-cent patterns from this era are of particular interest because they represent the one composition in which three-cent coins were actually circulating, making design modifications in this alloy the most commercially relevant of the group.
