The 1872 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-1243 is a proof half eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1872 half eagle dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1872 copper and aluminum strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle. Three different examples are believed known in copper. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1385 and Adams-Woodin 1222. Cataloged as PCGS #61515.
