Description
Featuring the Liberty Head with coronet obverse and heraldic eagle reverse of the production $5 gold piece, J-1240 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The half eagle, America's oldest gold denomination dating to 1795, received the same expanded six-variety treatment in 1872 that characterized all gold denominations this year, including the addition of the Amazonian gilt concept.
