Description

One of the most extraordinary pieces in the entire Trade Dollar era program, this gilt version of the Amazonian dollar combines William Barber's revolutionary warrior Liberty design with a gold-plated copper composition. The gilding transforms the Amazonian's already dramatic imagery into something approaching the visual impact of a gold coin, indicating that the Amazonian design was briefly considered not just for silver trade dollars but potentially for gold denominations as well. This piece is among the ultimate American pattern coin rarities.

Rarity Notes

R-8. Exceedingly rare, approximately 2-5 examples known. A landmark American numismatic rarity.
