Description

First documented pre-cud for the 1872 Indian Head Cent, this variety preserves the developing die rim crack that precedes a full cud — the stage where the fracture has formed but the broken piece has not yet separated from the die. Cross-referenced as 1872 Bold N with Snow numbers S4a through S4b and CONECA designations RPD-003 and MPD-001, this variety intersects with multiple classification systems that track Indian Head Cent die varieties.
