Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Struck in copper-nickel, the established composition of the production three-cent nickel since 1865, J-1048 features the Liberty Head obverse and Roman numeral III reverse. This pattern tested whether a new obverse design might improve upon the existing Liberty Head type III used on circulation three-cent nickels, or whether the established design already represented the optimal artistic expression for this small denomination.
