Description
Featuring the Liberty Head with coronet obverse and heraldic eagle reverse used on production quarter eagles since 1840, J-1164 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The quarter eagle ($2.50) gold denomination received only a small group of patterns during the Trade Dollar era, reflecting its relatively minor role in the broader coinage reform effort. The standard silver composition transforms the warm golden appearance of this familiar design into a cool silver portrait.
